We believe our strength comes from our people. By fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment, we create space for better ideas, deeper connections and lasting impact for our teams and our clients.

What DEI Means to Us

Bennett Jones places great emphasis on promoting and maintaining cultural and work practices that support diverse identities, orientations and opinions. We welcome open dialogue and education, promote allyship and community engagement, and advocate for equity in and beyond our firm. This approach is not only a moral imperative, but it also helps us to attract and retain the best talent—and to best serve our clients. A diverse, equitable and inclusive business environment makes for enhanced competencies, wider perspectives, closer connections and trusting relationships.

Policy and Charter

Our Business Conduct Policy sets out our standards of conduct and professionalism. The fundamental principles of honesty and integrity serve as our standard of business ethics.

Our Mindful Business Charter reinforces the importance that we place on mutual respect, collegiality and civility. We propagate these values firmwide to acknowledge the boundaries between our personal and professional lives, while continuing to uphold a high-performance work ethic. Key points of our charter include the following:

  • Promote a work environment where people can speak up early about concerns that they might have with their well-being or the well-being of others.
  • Treat internal colleagues and external contacts with respect and courtesy.
  • Avoid delegating a task without first ensuring that the recipient has the capacity to do the work.
  • When being instructed on a task, feel free to ask questions and to flag when a deadline is unrealistic and/or unachievable.
  • Ask for and provide clear, useful and honest feedback to others on a regular and ongoing basis.
  • Respect a person’s right to take regular vacations without the expectation of always being on call. Model the same behaviour where possible. Step in to attend to urgent matters to help colleagues enjoy periods of rest.

The Future Leaders in Law Scholarship Program

To help remove barriers that certain students face as they pursue law school studies, Bennett Jones established a C$10,000 Future Leaders Scholarship Program.

Three scholarships are awarded annually to provide support and mentorship to eligible incoming first-year law students enrolled in accredited Canadian law faculties who:

(a) demonstrate an interest in business law,
(b) identify as members of the Indigenous or Black communities, and/or
(c) are among the first generation of their immediate family to undertake post-secondary education.

The application deadline is July 15 of each calendar year.

The Bennett Jones Story

At Bennett Jones, legal solutions are our starting point. What drives us forward is knowing our clients inside and out—their ambitions, obstacles and success metrics.

For more than a century, we have shaped outcomes that matter in business, in law and in the broader Canadian landscape. And our commitment extends beyond legal matters: we invest deeply in the communities in which we live and work.
