Olu Akinniyi joined Bennett Jones as a summer student in 2023 at the Calgary office, returning to the firm as an articling student in 2025. 
Overview

Throughout his legal studies at the University of Calgary, Olu gained experience in mooting, placing in both the Julius Alexander Isaac Moot (5th out of 26 teams) and the McGillivray Moot (4th place). He also completed a corporate law exchange in London and a French-language semester at Aix-en-Provence Law School. Olu holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Specialization) from the University of Alberta. 

Olu is actively involved in his community through his involvement in the creative arts. During law school, he served as the project lead for the Hearsay Podcast with Pro Bono Students Canada and supported the University of Calgary’s Black Law Students Association as Marketing Support Director.  He also spent several years running a media production company, which helped develop his skills in content strategy, storytelling and visual communication. Olu is proficient in Spanish and has elementary proficiency in Portuguese.
