Overview

Mahnaz Jan Ali serves clients with a rare combination of legal experience in private practice and institutional investment. She was previously Director of Legal Affairs in the transactional investment group at Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ).

Mahnaz's experience includes acting for banks, borrowers and financial institutions in sophisticated secured and unsecured lending transactions. These include international and cross-border financings, syndicated loans, acquisition financings, and construction, real estate, corporate, equipment, and project financings.

She has acted for high profile Canadian and international clients and institutions on various complex renewable energy projects' acquisitions and financings, including wind farms, solar and hydroelectric projects.

Mahnaz has over 10 years of legal experience at another national law firm in Montréal and nearly two years' in-house experience at CDPQ.

Mahnaz served as a National Committee Member of the Aga Khan Foundation Canada from 2017-2024.

She is fluent in English, French and Farsi.

•  Canada Infrastructure Bank in its C$1-billion innovative financing to support Montréal-Trudeau transformation as part of the 2028–2035 Flight Plan, a development initiative aimed at increasing capacity at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport
•  The lead arrangers and the lending syndicate of a US$2.55-billion term facility and US$600-million revolving credit facility to support the US$6.3-billion sale of Nuvei
•  A retail company specializing in sports equipment and athletic clothing in its ABL financing
•  Consortium of institutions and pension fund managers in connection with their purchase and financing of a 50% interest in the 74MW Mont-Rothery Wind Project located in the province of Québec
•  Lender in connection with a financing of $1.25B syndicated senior secured credit facilities in the context of the acquisition of Broomfield, Colorado-based MWH Global
•  Lender in connection with the financing of the Témiscouata I wind farm of 25 MW and Témiscouata II wind farm of 50 MW
•  Lenders and administrative agent in the $805 million refinancing of the 230 MW Niagara Region Wind Farm in the Niagara Peninsula, Ontario
