Overview

Hussein Rehmanji has a corporate commercial law practice specializing in banking and secured transactions. He routinely acts for a variety of clients including domestic and foreign banks, alternative lenders, borrowers, sponsors and money service businesses. He has expertise in complex syndicated loan financings, acquisition financings, financings involving different lien lenders and bond offerings, all in a number of industries including cannabis, mining, manufacturing, infrastructure and technology.  He also advises federally regulated financial entities and reporting entities as to their compliance with anti-money laundering laws and regulations. 

Before becoming an associate at Bennett Jones, Hussein both summered and articled with the firm.

In law school, Hussein focused his education on business law earning a business law specialization certificate and was awarded the Robert B. MacLellan Memorial Prize in Business Law for achieving high academic standing among students specializing in business law.

Experience
•  Cresco Labs Inc. in its US$2-billion acquisition of Columbia Care Inc., making Cresco the second-largest cannabis producer and retailer in the U.S. at the time of the transaction.
•  Freed Developments Ltd. in its approximately $330-million acquisition of a portfolio of real property assets of including Horseshoe Valley Resort, Deerhurst Resort and some additional lands from Skyline Investments, together with the purchase of the portion of Muskoka Bay Resort it did not already own.
•  Brainlabs, a portfolio investment of Livingbridge and a leading data-led marketing agency, in its acquisition of Canadian programmatic buying and Google marketing platform consultants, MediaNet.
•  Cresco Labs, in its US$207-million acquisition of Bluma Wellness Inc. a vertically integrated operator in Florida.
•  The Watermill Group, in its acquisition of Weston Forest Products Inc., a leading distributor and remanufacturer of softwood and hardwood lumber and specialty panel products across North America.
