Overview

Jason Roth is head of the firm's construction law practice group. Jason practises law related to infrastructure development projects. He represents owners/developers and contractors in relation to domestic and international infrastructure, LNG, power and renewables, electrical transmission, pipeline, natural gas processing, agriculture, mining, and other projects.

Jason provides strategic advice, structuring, and drafting and negotiation of design/build, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), engineering and procurement (E&P), engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) and owner-managed contracts related to such projects. He also assists clients with procurement and supply chain matters as well as contract administration issues such as change order management and warranty issues.

From 2005 to 2006, Jason was in-house project counsel for the Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Limited (II) Project in Doha, Qatar. The US$12-billion project supplies 15 mpta of liquefied natural gas from Qatar to the UK and north Europe.

Jason is a member of the Canadian Bar Association construction practice section, a member of the British Columbia Construction Roundtable (BCCR) and a fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers.

•  Roquette Frères SA, a global leader in plant-based ingredients and a leading provider of pharmaceutical excipients, as Canadian counsel in connection with its acquisition of Qualicaps Co., Ltd., a manufacturer and supplier of capsules and related equipment.
•  ATCO Power (2010) Ltd. in all construction, procurement and claims related matters for Deerfoot Solar Project, an approximately 40MW brownfield solar project. 
•  ATCO Ltd., through Canadian Utilities Limited, in its acquisition from Aura Power Renewables of the 39 MW Empress solar project located in eastern Alberta.
•  CSV Midstream Solutions Corp. in various legal services including the negotiation of its long-term midstream services agreements for a sour gas processing facility project near Grande Prairie, Alberta.
•  ATCO Ltd., through Canadian Utilities Limited, in its acquisition from DP Energy of the Barlow (27 MW) and Deerfoot (37 MW) solar projects located in Calgary, which will be the largest solar installation in a major urban centre in Western Canada.
•  Calgary Glycol Facilities Corporation, in the Calgary Airport Dedicated De-icing Facilities Project.
•  Trans Mountain Pipeline L.P., in preparation and negotiation of construction contracts required for the completion of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project.
•  Encana Corp. with its development of multi-billion-dollar natural gas processing plants program in the Montney region of BC (EPCM).
•  Contractor, in the drafting and negotiation of behind the fence service electrical infrastructure agreement.
•  Contractor, in the submission of a proposal for an RFP for a solar design build project for a remote community in BC.
•  EPC Contractor, in the submission of a bid and negotiation of the engineering, procurement and construction contract for a project substation.
•  A publicly held company with its development of a proposed natural gas processing plant in Saskatchewan (design/build).
•  Japan Canada Oil Sands (JACOS) with the engineering, procurement and construction of its SAGD Hangingstone oil sands project (central processing facilities and well-pads) (design/build/EPC).
•  A publicly traded oil sands company with an engineering, procurement and construction contract for its mining oils sands project (onshore/offshore EPC and umbrella/wrap arrangements).
•  A publicly traded company with its development of power plants in Alberta and Mexico (design/build).
•  A publicly held owner with development of a rail-terminal oil loading facility in Saskatchewan.
•  A privately held owner with the development of its proposed in-situ coal gasification (ISCG) and carbon capture and storage project in Alberta.
•  A publicly held owner with its development of and associated midstream storage, salt cavern, brine pond and associated gas processing facilities (owner-managed project).
•  Qatar Aluminum Limited with its rebuild project of its primary aluminium products plant; Doha, Qatar.
