Anu Nijhawan Elected Chair of CBA National Tax Section

Bennett Jones congratulates Anu Nijhawan on being named as Chair of the Canadian Bar Association National Tax Section and Co-Chair of the CBA/CPA Joint Committee on Taxation. Comprised of some of the most highly regarded tax lawyers and accountants in Canada, the Joint Committee interacts with senior government officials in connection with current and proposed tax legislation.

Anu has served on the Joint Committee for the past six years and, through this role, has met regularly with the Department of Finance and the Canada Revenue Agency to provide technical comments, with a view to achieving an income tax system that is workable, equitable and effective. Her election is a testament to her leadership and accomplishments in the area of tax law, including as a trusted advisor on some of Canada’s largest and most complex transactions.

Anu is a partner in, and co-head of, the Bennett Jones national Tax Department, with extensive experience advising a diverse client base on the income tax aspects of corporate and partnership reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financing transactions, and resource taxation issues. Her practice encompasses all aspects of income tax issues related to international structures for Canadian-based multinational corporations, on investments by non-residents in Canada, and on structuring cross-border acquisitions, divestitures and financing transactions.
