James Atkinson joined Bennett Jones as a summer student in 2024 at the Vancouver office and returns as an articling student.

Overview

Throughout his studies at the Peter A. Allard School of Law, James explored a broad range of subject areas and assisted clients through the Business Law Clinic and University of British Columbia ID Clinic. He received the David Roberts Prize in Legal Writing.

James was active in the law school community, facilitating events as vice president of the Law Students' Society and as its director of Clubs. He also helped to create student networking opportunities as president of the Allard Ski Team, such as the Bennett Jones and Allard annual Ski Day.

Prior to attending law school, James obtained a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Political Studies at the University of Manitoba, where he received awards for attaining the highest standing in his program and faculty. His previous experience as an executive assistant to the Manitoba Minister of Justice and Attorney General developed his understanding of government decision-making processes and enhanced his research abilities. James also spent several years working at a public golf course, where he assumed managerial and business development roles.
