From inception to termination, Laura guides employers through all aspects of the employment relationship. Working with clients from a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing, energy, education and IT, she is a creative thinker who generates tailored and effective sector-specific legal solutions.

With the goal of helping clients manage and mitigate risk, Laura regularly advises on workplace policies and protocols, contracts, privacy, harassment and workplace violence, human rights, and workers' compensation issues. Employers and managers turn to her for strategic counsel on investigating workplace issues, including harassment and violence complaints. Laura has also conducted external investigations for employers who are faced with workplace complaints. She assists clients with complaints made to various entities including the Alberta Human Rights Commission, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, the Employment Standards Board, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commission. Laura has extensive experience representing physicians and surgeons in regulatory and litigation matters, including malpractice actions, professional discipline, privileging and privacy issues.  Recognized as a leading medical negligence and professional liability lawyer, she represents defendants and is a trusted advisor to healthcare professionals requiring assistance to resolve health-related legal disputes.

Speaking Engagements and Volunteer Organizations

In addition to maintaining a busy litigation practice, Laura is also a sought-after speaker and writer. She is regarded as a thought-leader in the Canadian legal and business community, frequently presenting on a range of topics including employment law, health law and governance issues. Most recently, she co-authored the Canada chapter in Global Investigations Review’s Practitioners Guide to Global Investigations, discussing the nuances that arise in cross-border investigations.

Laura is also a member of the Board of Directors at the Alberta Jubilee Auditoria Society, an organization that is dedicated to promoting arts and culture in Alberta.
