Overview

Russell's practice focuses on complex legal research and preparation of written argument at the appellate and trial levels. He has considerable expertise in providing advice on a wide variety of complicated issues, with particular experience in providing strategic support to major litigation files. Russell is regularly involved in disputes relating to breach of contract, energy, construction, arbitration and other corporate and commercial matters.

Russell completed his LLB (with distinction) at the University of Calgary where he was awarded the William A. McGillivray Gold Medal in Law for the highest academic standing in his graduating class. Prior to attending law school, Russell completed his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science (with distinction) degrees in Computer Science at the University of Calgary, where he was awarded the Governor General's Silver Medal for the highest academic standing across all university faculties at the undergraduate level. Previously, Russell received the Governor General's Bronze Medal for achieving the highest academic standing at the secondary level.

Dow Chemical Canada ULC and Dow Europe GmbH, in a successful $1.3-billion breach of contract claim against the operator of a jointly owned ethylene manufacturing facility.
A major financial institution in a fraud recovery lawsuit.
An international owner, in a $150-million delay claim in construction of an aluminum facility.
A greenhouse owner, in a multi-million dollar claim against an equipment manufacturer (Houweling Nurseries Oxnard, Inc. v. Saskatoon Boiler Mfg. Co. Ltd., 2011 SKQB 112).
Employees sued by a former employer for breach of non-solicitation/non-competition agreements (Globex Foreign Exchange Corporation v. Kelcher, 2009 ABQB 471, affirmed 2011 ABCA 240).
