Overview

Michael specializes in labour and employment law. His practice also includes health law and general litigation.

He regularly advises clients on workplace issues such as non-competition and non-solicitation obligations, human rights accommodations, workplace investigations, terminations for cause, compliance with employment standards, long-term absences, due diligence in transactions and other common concerns.

Michael has broad experience reviewing and drafting employment agreements, restrictive covenants, workplace policies and other key documents for use in Alberta, Ontario and other Canadian common law jurisdictions.

He has represented clients in various forums in Alberta and Ontario in civil claims, human rights complaints, employment standards disputes and labour arbitrations, as well as private mediations and other alternative dispute resolution processes.

Michael also works with the Health Law group to represent physicians facing professional discipline complaints and other administrative or regulatory difficulties.

Before joining Bennett Jones, he articled and worked at one of the country’s leading labour and employment boutiques in Toronto, where he gained experience representing both employers and employees in all types of employment disputes.

Michael is a member of the board of directors at Prospect Human Services, a non-profit organization that helps individuals in Alberta overcome barriers to finding employment.
